In the course of the LKH surgery project, a spectacular helicopter operation took place on Saturday, 06.03.2021.

Europe’s largest heavy-lift helicopter was used for this operation, during which two cooling units weighing almost 5 tons were moved on the roof of the surgery, which was not possible with a cargo crane due to the location. The Kamov KA 32-A12 (2 engines with 2,200PS each) was specially flown to us from Switzerland because it was the only helicopter capable of carrying the heavy load. The helicopter works here at the absolute load limit and generates downdrafts with more than 200km/h.

After the mission had already been postponed for a week due to the weather, it was refueled on Saturday at the nursery on the grounds of the LKH University Hospital Graz and then we were off.

Photos and videos of the spectacular mission must be seen.
